Blakeney

Blakeney has been a stunning achievement in planning and development. The 270 acre master planned community has become a jewel in South Charlotte’s crown. It is a multi-use development that includes single-family attached and detached homes, apartment homes, retail, commercial, and office development. Blakeney is situated on all four corners of Ardrey Kell and Rea Roads. It is just two miles from I485 and less than a quarter mile from the Union County line. What appears on the outside to be an overnight success, actually, is the result of a lot of planning and hard work that started back in 1986 when the zoning for the property was acquired by Crosland, Inc.

Crosland started by investing almost 9 million dollars in road improvements. These improvements included contributing the right of way and installing the Rea Rd. extension through Blakeney, getting Blakeney Heath Rd. extended to Ardrey Kell, and also paying for the design and planning of Ardrey Kell Rd. between Lancaster Highway and Providence Rd. These improvements were integral to the future success of Blakeney.

Crosland Land completed the residential infrastructure and builders Saussy Burbank and Ryan Homes constructed Blakeney Greens. Blakeney Greens featured 364 single-family homes and townhomes. Blakeney Preserve was next with 216 single-family homes built by Pulte. The Apartments at Blakeney offers luxury apartment living designed to look and feel like single-family homes.

Blakeney residents enjoy a lifestyle that includes restaurants, grocery retailers, banks and shopping all within walking distance. Blakeney Professional Center offers various medical professionals, a child learning center and other neighborhood service providers. The shopping area of Blakeney features an outdoor fountain, quaint shops, and outdoor dining. During the summer months you will find live music with children and adults alike enjoying the entertainment, shopping and playground while waiting for their tables at one of the numerous restaurants.

Residents and visitors also can enjoy the Blakeney Racquet Club of Charlotte. It boasts a state-of-the –art clubhouse with racquetball, fitness center, child watch, pro-shop, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and personal fitness training. It has 10 outdoor tennis courts which include 2 red clay, 5 Hur-tru, and 3 hard courts. Future plans include a swim center and indoor tennis facilities.
